About this Event

The 106th World Day of Migrants and Refugees will be celebrated on September 27, 2020. As the title for his annual message, the Holy Father has chosen “Forced like Jesus Christ to Flee”. To read Pope Francis’ full message, click here.

The message focuses on the pastoral care of internally displaced people (IDPs), who currently number over 41 million worldwide. The six sub-themes of this year's theme, expressed in six pairs of verbs are: to know in order to understand; to draw near so as to serve; to listen in order to reconcile; to share and thus to grow; to involve in order to promote; and finally, to collaborate and therefore to build.

The Archdiocese of Vancouver is home to Catholics from many countries and where the Holy Mass is celebrated in over twenty-two languages. Migrants leave their homes in search of a better life and face the difficult experience of migration in its various forms. 2020 will be the 9th year we as an Archdiocese join the universal Church in commemorating and observing the World Day of Migrants and Refugees.

On Sunday, September 27, 2020, at 3:30 p.m., the 106th World Day of Migrants and Refugees Mass will be celebrated by Archbishop J. Michael Miller, CSB. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the Mass will be live-streamed for all who would like to join in prayerful celebration and solidarity with our migrant and refugee brothers and sisters.

The World Day of Migrants and Refugees Mass is sponsored by the Ministries and Outreach Office of the Archdiocese and organized by the World Day of Migrants and Refugees leadership team, chaired by Tina Perizzolo, a lay Scalabrinian, and spiritually supported by Father Rosemond Sylvestre, CS.
