About this Event
“Simbang Gabi” is a tradition unlike any other. A Christmas Marian Novena of Masses, “Simbang Gabi” is a nine-day devotion that honours the Annunciation, the expectation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, and culminating in the birth of Jesus. Centered on the Eucharist, it is a combination of deep prayer, community spirit, reconciliation, hope, love, and the grateful recognition of our redemption.
In contrast we now live in a time like no other. We continue to suffer losses and experience tragedies. At times it seems like there is no respite. We have grown tired, even callous, sometimes cynical, and at other times hesitant, in moving forward ... fearing that the worst is yet to come.
By God’s Grace, we can hope based on a Promise: Advent is the anticipation of the coming of our Saviour Jesus Christ, the Light that will lead us out of darkness.
In this very same Light we invite all faithful to celebrate this Promise of Salvation, by attending the Nine-Day Novena Masses (“Simbang Gabi”.) These masses will be available in-person at twenty-four (24) participating Parishes across the Lower Mainland, at different times, and in both English and Tagalog. Please refer to the schedule below.
To start off the Novena Masses, everyone is invited to the “Simbang Gabi” Launching Mass at the Holy Rosary Cathedral on December 14, 2021 at 7:00 PM. This will be officiated by none other than Archbishop J. Michael Miller, CSB.
Following Filipino Christmas and Advent traditions, the “Parol” (Christmas Lantern) Procession and the “Panuluyan” (Christmas Eve Play) will preface the evening’s celebration.
