About this Event
One-week course at the St. Mark's College Summer Institute - Open to all learners, new and returning
Learn about Jesus’ teachings on children, read New Testament texts that deal with the life of children, and explore how early Christians understood the role of children in the early Church and in their families.
What did it mean to be a child in the ancient world? Did Jesus and the early Christians accept and value children in different ways than their fellow Jews or neighbouring Greeks and Romans?
We will discuss the social life, the moral life, the education and discipline, and the treatment of children, theologically and otherwise, in the early Church and work towards an overall understanding of children in early Christianity.
Instructor: Dr. John Martens
