About this Event

Every Sunday Matter is one of the four Archdiocesan Priorities. For the next four months, Into the Deep will help us better understand the importance of the Liturgy.

Liturgy and life go hand-in-hand. They are so bound up in each other that the liturgical theologian Aidan Kavanagh claimed, “liturgy is doing the world as it was meant to be done.” What does this mean? Does this conform to your own experience? How can I come to see Sunday Mass as fundamental to life and not as something foreign or even insignificant? Join Dr. Andrew Kaethler as he delves into these questions and many others as he explores the sacramental richness of the liturgical life.

If you plan to attend in-person at a parish host site, no registration is required. If you would like to receive the recording and or watch on line on the day of the event, please click the register button on the right side.

Parish Host Sites:

  • St. Joseph the Worker, Richmond
  • St. Augustine, Vancouver

If your parish would like to be one of our host sites and show Into the Deep in your parish, please email [email protected].

Seeing Things as They Are: Liturgy as Living

Friday, September 23, 2022

Liturgy and life go hand-in-hand. They are so bound up in each other that the liturgical theologian Aidan Kavanagh claimed, “liturgy is doing the world as it was meant to be done.” But what does liturgy have to do with the world, and what does the world have to do with liturgy? Join us as we explore the sacramentality of the cosmos. The video recording can be found here.

A Matter of Time: The Liturgical Year and the Sabbath

Friday, October 28, 2022

The Church teaches that Sundays and other days of the year are days of obligation. Is this some sort of ecclesial overreach, a legalistic but ultimately unnecessary demand, or is something more going on? In this talk we will consider the theological significance of time and why the Sabbath and the liturgical year are key to the Catholic life. The video recording can be found here.

Re-Membering: The Paschal Mystery and the Liturgy

Friday, November 25, 2022

The Son of God became man and dwelt among us. God entered his own story, history. Yet, historically speaking, his momentous life and death is an event that has long since passed. If the central reality of Christianity, Jesus Christ, is merely an event of the past can it speak deeply into my life? Join us as we explore how the liturgy makes present the historical event of Christ’s passion and resurrection and establishes faith as an encounter and not a mere ideology. The video recording can be found here.
