About this Event

“Hope does not disappoint, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit that has been given to us” - Romans 5:5

Advent is a season of hope, but the hope God promises can seem to evade us at times. In the chaos of life, we can forget or refuse to open even wider the door to hope in our lives. Join other ministry leaders and teams as we meditate on the power of hope and how we can live more as people of hope.

Please register by November 27. This retreat is open to parish ministry coordinators and teams.

Fr. Justin’s Resistance to Hope

Fr. Justin will share personal testimony in his own struggle with hope and his intentional resolutions to choose and pray for hope. God wants to encourage hope in the areas of our life where there is fear, and sometimes God even allows us to enter into experiences of deprivation in order to ultimately purify us and draw us into deeper relationship with Him.

Patience as the Companion to Hope

Sister Jeanne d’Arc will reflect on the value of patience as a companion to hope. She will draw from the life of St. Francis of Assisi to illustrate practical steps for cultivating patience and becoming more open to hope. There will be time for small group discussion and personal goal setting.

Fr. Justin Huang

Fr. Justin Huang grew up in Richmond, BC, the third of three brothers. Though not raised Catholic, he started going to Mass when he was 13. After a powerful experience of God’s love through the Sacrament of Reconciliation, he felt called to the Holy priesthood at the age of 16.

He entered Seminary of Christ the King in Mission, BC, where he completed his BA in liberal arts. He then studied theology at St. Joseph’s seminary in New York, where he obtained a M.Div/S.T.B (Summa cum laude) and a MA in Moral Theology.

He was ordained a priest in 2006, happily served as an assistant in St. Mary’s, Chilliwack and St. Paul’s, Richmond, and then was asked to study for the Diplomatic Service of the Holy See in Rome. After completing three years of study at the Pontifical Ecclesiastical Academy in Rome, where he learned Italian, and completed his J.C.L. (Licentiate in Canon Law) with a thesis on the rights and duties surrounding dialogue in the Church, he returned to Vancouver, and served as assistant pastor at Our Lady of the Assumption parish, Port Coquitlam, while being the part-time chaplain at Redeemer Pacific College (now Catholic Pacific College). He is the current pastor of St. Anthony of Padua, Vancouver, and is very thankful to God to be there.

Fr. Justin loves God and the Church with all his heart and tries his best to give God’s love and truth to others! He also loves prayer, discussions about anything serious, and loves sports, especially tennis, hockey, Wushu and Volleyball. Because he wrote a thesis on dialogue, he loves asking and answering questions, so that we can know the truth better.
