About this Event

As we begin our journey through the Advent Season join us for the Annual Archdiocesan Advent Retreat and prepare your “Interior Stable” to welcome the Christ Child. Father Boniface Hicks, OSB, will lead a prayerful mediation on the Nativity story with time for reflection, silence and prayer and Father Joachim Aldaba, O.Praem, will share with us the joy of the great news of the birth of our Savior and reflect on the Gloria in Excelsis Deo.

Following the retreat, all the participants will receive, throughout Advent, weekly emails with short videos and/or reflections to help us continue to prepare for the coming of the Christ Jesus at Christmas.

About the Speakers:

Fr. Joachim Aldaba

Fr. Joachim Aldaba, O.Praem. is a Norbertine Canon from St. Michael's Abbey in Orange County, California. Father Joachim was born and raised in Vancouver, Canada, serving at St. Andrew’s Parish and attending high school at Vancouver College. He studied for two years at the Seminary of Christ the King before following his religious vocation to St. Michael’s in August of 2007. He was quickly named an Assistant Cantor which he served as a seminarian until he was ordained a priest in 2017.

Father studied theology at St. Philip's Seminary in Toronto, ON and at the Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas in Rome and graduated with a Masters in Divinity. He is now the head cantor of his Norbertine community responsible for overseeing the daily liturgical chant in the Divine Office, providing instruction for seminarians and leading the choir during Mass. This role is especially important since the charism of the Norbertines is the solemn celebration of the sacred liturgy. The Norbertines are celebrating the 900th anniversary of their order this year in 2021.

Father Boniface Hicks, O.S.B., has been a monk of Saint Vincent Archabbey since 1998. He has been involved with WAOB (We Are One Body) radio station, Latrobe, since its formation in 2010, presently serving as program director. In 2017, Father Boniface co-authored, along with Father Thomas Acklin, O.S.B., the book Spiritual Direction: A Guide for Sharing the Father’s Love, he then published A Guide for Receiving the Father’s Love and Through the Heart of St. Joseph.

He has a bachelor of science degree in computer science and a master of science degree in computer science from Penn State University. He earned a master of arts degree in 2003, and a master of divinity degree in 2004 from Saint Vincent Seminary, summa cum laude. Following ordination in 2005, he returned to Penn State, where he completed his Ph.D. in computer science in 2007.

Upon his return to Saint Vincent, he served as a faculty member at Saint Vincent College (2007-2011); associate director of spiritual formation (2015) then director of spiritual life (2016-present), adjunct faculty member (2017-present) and director for alumni affairs (2017-present) at Saint Vincent Seminary.
