Do you know what Canada’s laws on prostitution are? Are you aware of the lived experiences of trafficked women? Join us as we learn more about how we can promote human dignity.

Laura Lam

Laura is a member of the Anti-Human Trafficking committee at the Archdiocese of Vancouver. She is an incoming Ph.D. student in Industrial Relations and Human Resources at the University of Toronto in Fall 2020. Her research interest is at the nexus of migration, employment and gender inequality.

Sister Nancy Brown

Sister Nancy Brown is a Sister of Charity of Halifax, an educator, advocator and spiritual guide. She is a former Pastoral Counselor/Ombudsperson and Senior Manager at Covenant House Vancouver, which is a crisis intervention centre for homeless and at-risk youth in Vancouver’s downtown area. Recently awarded the Order of BC, the Queen’s Silver Jubilee and the Benemerenti medals, she is a tireless advocate for the most vulnerable and those at risk of human trafficking and sexual exploitation. Presently she serves on several Anti-Human Trafficking Committees, including the Working Group on Sexual Exploitation (SEWG) of the Canadian Council of Churches. 

Gwendoline Allison

Gwendoline is the principal of Foy Allison Law in West Vancouver. For the past twenty-two years, she has acted for clients in the areas of employment law, human rights law, and commercial litigation. She represented the Archdiocese of Vancouver in its intervention in the Trinity Western University case, and is co-counsel to the Asian Women Coalition Ending Prostitution, appearing before the Supreme Court of Canada as an intervener in the Bedford case.  She was a witness before the House of Commons Standing Committee on Justice and Human Rights and the Senate Standing Committee on Legal and Constitutional Affairs regarding what has become the Protection of Communities and Exploited Persons Act.
