Message from Therapist

Ed loves hearing the personal stories of his clients and use these to help clarify what is hindering them. He tends to ask questions about their family of origin, their history of relationships, and their understanding of how broader cultural influences may have shaped them. Being someone’s therapist is a unique privilege for which he is deeply thankful for.

Bio

Ed was born in London, ON, and spent a good portion of his childhood in Saskatoon, SK before moving to Vancouver. After going through high school and attaining a B.Sc. and B.Ed from UBC, he taught at an international school in Hong Kong for 4 years. When he returned from Hong Kong, he entered theological studies at Regent College (M.Div., 2008) and helped to start and pastor a small congregation for 4 years. Ed subsequently moved into doctoral studies in clinical psychology at Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, CA, and after completing his predoctoral internship at UBC’s Student Counselling Services, he graduated with a Doctor of Psychology degree.

Expertise

Ed’s training and life experiences have helped him to develop a keen interest in the intersections of family, culture, and faith. As a result of his living overseas and training in Metro Los Angeles and Vancouver, he tends to work very well with people of diverse backgrounds and with people who seek longer-term therapy for family and relational difficulties. He is also fairly conversant in the integration of psychology and theology, and takes pride in being able to work effectively within a person’s tradition. He does not assume that the academic and religious cultures that formed him are what is best for the client, but instead seeks to understand the client’s worldview and to help them grow in it.
